In the misty mountains of the Kirthar range, where peaks soar above seven thousand feet, a young man from the Brohi tribe once undertook a painful journey to the summit. He climbed with nothing but a humble bag slung over his shoulder. Inside it lay his loyal dog, silent and lifeless, a symbol of love and loss.
The Brohi man’s heart was as heavy as the rain falling around him. Memories flooded his mind—moments he had spent with his dog, a creature that had been more than just a pet. The dog was brave, quick, and proud, traits that only made his tragic end more unbearable for his master.
The bond between the man and his dog had begun years earlier when the Brohi discovered the small animal lost in the mountains. With a heart full of compassion, he took the dog in, and they quickly became inseparable. Their companionship became famous across the valley, a tale of friendship that warmed the hearts of the villagers.
One day, however, fate intervened in the form of a wealthy merchant, to whom the Brohi owed money. The merchant demanded that the dog be left in his care as collateral until the debt was repaid. Overwhelmed by misfortune, the Brohi agreed, whispering to his friend to stay loyal to his new master. As if understanding each word, the dog reluctantly obeyed, wearing a new collar and staying behind with the merchant.
While the Brohi labored to earn back his freedom, his dog remained faithfully at the merchant's side. They spent nights apart, longing for each other as the moon cast its light over the mountains. The man worked tirelessly, but paying off his debt seemed like an endless challenge.
One fateful night, thieves broke into the merchant's house. The loyal dog spotted them but was restricted by his collar. Unable to protect his master's property, he barked and struggled, yearning to give chase. Impressed by the dog’s determination, the merchant released him, and he pursued the thieves into the mountains, leading the way to recover the stolen items. In gratitude, the merchant granted the dog his freedom.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Brohi had finally gathered enough money to repay his debt and rushed toward the merchant’s house. On the road, the man and his dog encountered each other. But while the dog’s eyes shone with joy, the Brohi’s heart sank with a bitter misunderstanding, believing his friend had abandoned him.
In a moment of anger and heartbreak, the Brohi scolded the dog and commanded him to leave. Rejected by his master, the loyal dog turned to leave. In his sorrow, the dog tragically slipped from the rocky path and fell, meeting his untimely end.
When the truth came to light, the Brohi was overwhelmed with regret. Determined to honor his beloved companion, he climbed to the highest point in the Kirthar range to bury his friend, immortalizing him on the mountain peak now known as "Jabal Kuttey Ji Kabar"—Mount Dog’s Grave.
Centuries have passed, yet the Brohi tribe keeps the legend alive, telling of the unbreakable bond between the man and his dog. Under the full moon’s light, villagers claim that shadows of the two can still be seen on the peak, a testament to a friendship that transcended life itself. This story reminds us that true love—boundless and eternal—knows no boundaries, transcending time and even death.
